You’ve got plenty of choices when it comes to tech conferences in 2016, but if your aim is to explore the spark that ignites at the intersection of community, culture, creativity, capital, and code, then get yourself to Bloomington April 7-9 for The Combine 2016.
Bloomington, Indiana? Yes, young grasshopper, Bloomington, IN: epicenter of all kinds of awesomeness that should be on your bucket list.
At the Combine, you’ll learn and network with nationally-renowned entrepreneurs and innovators, but save time to explore why Bloomington is consistently named one of the best small cities for livability, culture, food, business and careers.
Small Town Charm. Big City Culture.
You most likely recognize Bloomington as home to the Big Ten’s best school (we’re not biased or anything): Indiana University. By golly, yes, Bloomington is a seriously thriving college town. But stroll a few blocks past IU’s beautiful Sample Gates entrance, down the storied Kirkwood Avenue, and you’re right in the downtown heart of Bloomington.
Did you know that this town of a mere 80,000 or so boasts more than 90 restaurants in its downtown, and the majority of them are independent and locally owned? Whether you’re famished for the flavor of your favorite ethnic fare or you just want to sup on a slice of pizza or grab a good burger, Bloomington has everything from Amrit India to Little Zagreb.
You’ll have no trouble finding unforgettably amazing meals fit for any foodie, whether you’re out brunch or late-night grub and everything in between.
Adventuring is Better in B’town
If you need some activities to work up an appetite to allow you to dive guilt-free into this food scene, no problem! Among the more than 2,274 acres of city parks, check out an 18-hole disc golf course, or hop on The B-Line Trail, a multi-use path that runs right past the downtown Convention Center and is the hallmark of the City’s more than 31 miles of trails. Only ten minutes from downtown, you can take a hike, rent a row boat (on Saturday or Sunday) or just otherwise commune with nature at Griffy Lake.
Or maybe, after spending a thought-provoking day at The Combine, you’d like to take in a show and escape a bit into someone else’s world. With IU’s top ranked Jacobs School of Music and its theatre, drama and contemporary dance programs, the university hosts more than a thousand performances a year. Plus, with the Bloomington Playwrights Project (the only professional theatre in the entire state of Indiana dedicated solely to new plays), and great venues like The Bluebird and The Players Pub and others where you can check out local and touring bands, there is no shortage of live performance options awaiting you in Bloomington.
But, let’s not get too sidetracked. You’re coming to Bloomington for a reason. What was that again? Oh, yes! The Combine 2016!
